Sudhir Chakravarti (b. 1934), professor from 1958 to 2014 and associated with the Institute of Development Studies, Kolkata (2010-14) as a guest professor, was a U.G.C. and I.C.S.S.R grant scholar of Folk Religion and Cultural Anthropology. Author of around 70 books, Chakravarti received the Ananda Purashkar (2002) and the Sahitya Akademi Award (2004). Recipient of awards from Calcutta University, Delhi University, Rabindra Bharati University and the Dr. Sukumar Sen Gold Medal from the Asiatic Society, he lives in Krishnanagar, West Bengal. His interests are music, art, folk-religion, cultural anthropology and the quest for the roots of the Bauls and Fakirs of Bengal. His Gobheer Nirjon Pothey has been a best seller.
