Rahul Purkayastha (born 12th December 1964) who started writing in his early twenties is widely known as one of the recognized poets in contemporary Bengali poetry. By now he has authored six books of poems, one poetic drama and essays on poetry. As recognition of his contributions Rahul received Kobi Birendra Chottopadhaya Puraskar, Shakti Chottopadhaya Samman and Bhasanagar Puraskar.
